The Answer Is Release Party

June 15, 2015

Hello, readers! Dawn Kimberly Johnson here. I’m taking over the DSP blog until 5 p.m. EST. Hope your Monday is going well. Mine certainly is.

AnswerIs[The]LGI’m here to introduce my new novel The Answer Is. It’s the sequel to Good Question and continues the love story of Lonnie Bellerose and Jamison Coburn, two men struggling to trust in their feelings and get on with it already.

GQ200I was first published in 2009, and since then I’ve heard many comments about the gay romance genre lacking in the diversity department. So eventually I wrote Good Question with two African American main characters. They obviously have a few things in common: they’re black, male, and gay. But somehow, through very different life experiences, they’ve both come to the conclusion that they’re not good enough.

Jamison is trying to live up to the memory of his honest, loving father, and Lonnie has been traumatized twice by men who were supposed to love him, but instead made him feel worthless and just…wrong.

Doubt and fear tend to hold us back from what we want most. Don’t do that.

What doubts or fears are you working to overcome, or have overcome in your life? Leave your comment below for a chance to win the ebook of Good Question and an autographed paperback copy of The Answer Is.

On Wednesday, June 17, I’ll draw a name at random and announce the winner by noon. Good luck. There will be other chances to win today, so hang in there.

Congrats on the release of The Answer is, it’s a very catching title. And a happy release day :)

As for overcoming fear: I have to say my fear to speak up or speak my mind. I’m a shy person by nature and it isn’t easy for me to speak my mind but because of my son who is multipled disabled i had to learn to overcome that fear because he can’t stand up for himself so i must do that for him.

Happy release day, Dawn! I think it’s awesome that you’ve revisited the guys from Good Question and expanded their lives, and I’m always happy to see more diversity.

I had the same thought as Angela. I’m trying to overcome my tendency to keep quiet. It’s a multi-layered issue. One, I think it’s important to do more listening than talking because hearing different viewpoints is important for understanding. Two, I really hate hurting people’s feelings, and so I put a lot of pressure on myself to say things so there are no misunderstandings. I think a lot about how this ends up stifling my expression, and while I don’t want to be someone who steamrolls over anyone, I want to be able to worry less and speak up more. I’m a work-in-progress. ;)

    Congrats on your new release.

I’m pretty introvert so I’m no social butterfly. In the past year I’ve come out of my shell a bit or at least I’m being told that.

I’m trying to fight my fear of social media (privacy issues and whatnot)…it’s coming along slowly but surely!
