Release day Lorcan Style.

May 30, 2011

So for those of you who don’t know me I’m SJD Peterson but I like to be called Jo and today is the release of my debut novel, Lorcan’s Desire, the first book in the Whispering Pines Ranch series. Lorcan is a much more interesting character than I am so I thought I’d dedicate my blog posts to him and let you get to know him a little better. Throughout the day I’ll be posting excerpts, contests and interviewing Conner who has been with the Whispering Pines Ranch for over 30 years and  find out what he thinks of Lorcan. Make sure you stop back by. You will not want to miss what Conner has to say, he is…..well let’s just say Conner doesn’t have a filter between his brain and his mouth.

The name Lorcan means:

Lorcan \l(o)-rcan, lor-can\ as a boy’s name is pronounced LOR-ken. It is of Irish and Gaelic origin, and the meaning of Lorcan is “little fierce one”.

“Little fierce one” describes him perfectly. Lorcan has had to fight since he was a small child but not only is he fierce at protecting himself he is fiercely loyal. Here is a personal message from Lorcan I recently posted. For those of you who have read it I apologize for the repeat, for those of you who haven’t…..Meet Lorcan James and the photo that inspired him.

My name is Lorcan James and I grew up on a dairy farm in a small town in Indiana. I’m the youngest of four boys and have grown up sheltered and protected by my parents and brothers. You see, unlike my dad and brothers I was blessed, or rather in my mind, cursed with looking more like my mama than my dad. Lenn, Camron and Aiden (those are my brothers) Are tall, their bodies thick with muscle and handsome masculine faces just like my daddy Matthew James. Me? I finally hit six foot last year, but I’m too damn skinny and it doesn’t matter how hard I work or how much I eat, I can’t seem for the life of me to add any size to my frame. Another thing that I can’t do a damn thing about is the delicate features of my face that I inherited from my mama. Now on her, it’s stunning and she’s so beautiful that it’s a damn good thing my dad’s not a jealous man. If he was, he’d be fighting as often as I had to when I was a kid, because mama sure makes heads turn with her beauty. For me being “beautiful” is the last thing I want used to describe me.
Now you’re probably wondering about the long hair. Why I would have it if I hate being thought of as beautiful. See, here’s the thing. When I was growing up the kids at school teased me all the time, called me sissy, queer boy, faggot, drag queen the list goes on and on. I was pretty young and didn’t know what the words meant when they first started, but I knew they were real bad when I asked mama what they meant and she hugged me and cried. It didn’t matter how many times I told the other kids that I wasn’t one of those filthy words they didn’t stop and before long I was having to use my fists to defend myself. I got real good at fighting and started growing my hair out just to taunt the kids and dare them to say something.
Growing up with a loving and understanding family is great, but it has it’s downfalls too. The only friends I really had were my brothers and my sole identity was being the littlest James. So I turned twenty-one and decided I was going to venture out on my own and find my own identity, find something that only my family had ever shown me and that was acceptance just for being me. I found my way to the Whispering Pines Ranch with nine cents in my pocket and a whole lot of desperation. There I met Quinn Taylor the man who would turn my world upside down and inside out. I learn who I am while I am there, but will I find acceptance?
