Dreaming of Paris

Ahhhh, Paris! I love it!

I love strolling along the grand boulevards created by Haussmann, admiring the architecture, the ornate balconies, the beautiful wooden doors with intricate mouldings and ironwork… Paris is sheer beauty for the eye.

I love cafés where I can sit out on the street and watch the world go by. People watching is always fascinating, especially when you can understand the language. Some interesting conversations…. The last time I was there, I sat at a café in the gay district, watching the gorgeous guys who strolled up and down the street, sometimes hand in hand (loved that), and always looking good no matter what they wore!

I love sitting in the quiet little garden behind the Basilique St.Denis at Montmartre on a warm, sunny day, reading or sketching, letting the rest of the world get on with whatever it’s getting on with…

I love going into an Artisan Patisserie and buying something chocolatey and decadent like a religieuse – it’s a cake, made with choux pastry, a smaller ball sat on top of a larger one and covered in chocolate or coffee icing, with a mock cream ruffle collar – it’s supposed to resemble a little fat nun, and inside the choux balls is thick chocolate custard. Buying freshly made croissants or pain au chocolat and then eating them, a piece at a time…

I love strolling along the narrow streets near St. Michel, where the restaurant managers stand in front of their doorways, enticing you to come in. Sitting out on the street, eating a meal on a warm summer’s evening…

I love sitting by the fountains at Trocadéro, watching the jets of water dance in the sunlight.

I love sitting in front of Notre Dame, where the low hedges are filled with cute little sparrows whose heads pop up above the foliage in search of crumbs from tourists. Watching the gypsy women who walk around, McDonalds cup in hand, begging… only to see them empty their coins into a very large purse slung over their shoulder…

I love opening the French doors of my hotel room to walk out onto a balcony that overlooks a typical Parisian street, busy, always busy, alive with traffic and noise, and people, the smells of diesel and Gaulloise cigarettes, street cleaners who continually clean, and listening to the occasional lovers’ tiff…

Yeah, you can’t tell I love Paris at all, can you? ;-)

This was going to sound strange (this is a blog about gay romance after all),but when I think of Paris,I think of Parisian women – their demeanor, sensuality, sense for fashion…

Thanks for the post. I have never been overseas. My youngest got to go overseas in her senior year of high school. Maybe one day I’ll get to see Paris

Paris is a beautiful city, i visited it in my late teens with some friends. For some strange reason i fell in love with the Eifeltower, for years i even had a big poster (framed) of the Eifeltower in my bedroom :)
