The Bodyguard Trope

March 11, 2015

I have always loved the bodyguard trope, though I haven’t written a lot of it. But I find it fun and sexy and hot.

With Guarding January, I started with LJ himself and Rye showed up — so it wasn’t even like I started out with that in mind. The characters always drive the show for me, but I was very happy when it turned out that LJ’s guy was his bodyguard and I got to play in that particular playground.

What is your favorite trope?

I think a better question for me, is: Is there any trope you don’t like? I like bodyguards, gay for you, friends to lovers, etc. My favorite trope depends on my mood i guess. Sometimes I really want hurt/comfort and other times I want something else. I can’t say that anything is favored over another.

That’s great, Jen – it means that you aren’t going to be turned off by a book just because of the trope it might use.

I like all sort of books. I love cowboys, fire fighters, cops etc. etc. reading all this i think i have a thing for men in uniform :)
I also like books with hurt/comfort or a person with a disability.

It definitely makes finding more books to read easy. :-)

I agree with Jen. I’m a mood reader too. Right now I’ve been craving angst so I’ve been reading second chance and returning back home stories, before that it was cops and shifters. I’ll read almost anything.

  6. SeanMichael says:

variety is the spice of life they say — it’s good to get a taste of everything :)

Big strong protector is a great trope :)

My favorite is probably Second Chance at Love – it’s just so hopeful.

  8. Susan says:

I like gay for you, but I will read any trope as long as the story is original and well written.

  9. Denise Dechene says:

So many to choose from. I know I am drawn to books with an Alpha who loves a geeky guy and the geeky guy ends up being more powerful than thought. I have a tendency to root for the underdog

  10. SeanMichael says:

nods at Susan – if we limit the tropes we’ll read, we limit the books to choose from!

And yeah, Denise, I like books that turn the alpha-type/geek dude trope on its head, too.

I’m open to all types of tropes but mood definitely determines which type of trope would focus on for a time.

  12. Waxapplelover says:

I agree with the above. I’ll read most everything. Even though there are a few that are favorites, I don’t limit myself.

  13. SeanMichael says:

again, variety seems to be the consensus –I like that.
