Twelve Tasks Release Party #2 – Crazy Tasks Giveaway

November 6, 2013

Giveaway time! So Eliot has to perform Twelve Tasks to complete the challenge. Not all of them are life-changing, but they are all things out of Eliot’s comfort zone including signing karaoke, joining a gym, ballroom dancing etc.

Here is an excerpt from one of my favorite scenes about riding a motorcycle:

He was startled when he heard the rumbling of engines that became incrementally louder. Two motorcycles appeared from around the corner, two riders on each. Carlos was driving a big red machine with handles that stretched out on either side. Evangeline sat behind him, long dark hair tangled in the breeze, squealing with delight and waving enthusiastically when she spied Jen and Eliot.

Matt and Joel followed them, on a smaller, sleeker bike, black with shimmering edges and a small, tight frame. Eliot felt a sudden knot in his throat that had nothing to do with fear of riding and everything to do with staring at Matt as he drove toward them. He wore black jeans and a white t-shirt and large aviator sunglasses that caught the sunlight. His hands gripped the handlebars causing the muscles in his forearms to flex and stand out underneath his tanned skin. When he pulled his helmet off, his hair was wild and messy.

Eliot had to look away, had to before that image of Matt was burned in his retinas; before it became the only thing he saw when he closed his eyes.

So maybe this hasn’t happened to you. (If it has, please drop me a line in the comments. I must hear about it!) But I bet you’ve done some crazy things in the name of love. I want to know! Have you bungee jumped? Parachuted out of an airplane? Ridden a scary rollercoaster? Danced all night?

Tell me something exciting/crazy/frightening that you’ve done and I’ll pick the story I like the best and that person will get a copy of Twelve Tasks! I’ll announce the winner on the last post of my takeover today.

I don’t know how crazy this is, but I proposed to my husband two months after we met. And I’m a woman. So that’s a bit crazy, right?

Well, I didn’t propose so much as I TOLD him.

We’d been introduced on a blind date two months earlier and had just spent most of a wonderful weekend together. He keep huffing like he was thinking of something or wanting to say something, but never would come out with whatever it was. I basically got tired of waiting and blurted out, “I want to marry you!” He agreed, said he needed to buy me a ring, and we started what became a 10 year discussion on baby names. By the way, he wears an engagement ring, too.

We’ve been married over 22 years.

Thanks for letting me tell my story.

    Melanie~~

I’m afraid of heights but my sister bought tickets for the whole family to vacation in Florida. It was too late to back out so to make sure I wouldn’t freak out I ended up staying up all night (my first time pulling an all nighter) and getting on the plane with them. It kind of worked on the two hour flight but during the turbulence I was freaking out just a little. I did a lot of things on that trip that I wasn’t really proud of…lol

I haven’t put myself in physical harm, but I’ve injured my ego often! In college, I wrote a birthday song for the guy I was crushing on, rounded up his friends (while trying not to reveal my desperate love to them), and we ambushed him to sing it en masse. (Spoiler alert: the feeling was never mutual, and he married a friend of mine!)

Melanie! That is amazing! And definitely crazy ;) All the <3's to you and your hubby!

  5. therese says:

H.B. – that is an awesome story. The few times I’ve been on a plane, I have hit turbulence and it is so freaky! I’m right with you there on that!

  6. therese says:

Trix – OMG. THAT IS SO BRAVE! Major props to you for not only doing that but inviting your friends along too.

  7. I made a roomful of people get drunk and play strip poker and spin the bottle just so I could get a first kiss with my now-husband at a party.
I blushed a LOT during the speeches at our wedding as a result of this, and am eternally grateful that it happened in the days before camera phones and the internet ;)

  8. Susan says:

I joined the USAF for a guy I thought I loved. Turns out I was a better officer than him and that was the beginning of the end. I was even in Turkey during the Iraq war and had to play war games on a regular basis. And I’m very liberal politically, so I never talked politics!

  9. therese says:

Jay, that is awesome! Cunning and crazy at the same time :D

  10. therese says:

Susan! That’s awesome. Go you! I love that it turned out that you were a better officer! and thank you for your service :)

  11. Andrea M says:

The craziest thing I’ve ever done for love was marry my husband even though we’d only seen each other 3 times. I left a very successful job in the south, moved to the north…basically, I left my entire life behind and jumped in with both feet. I thought I’d gone nuts but 17 years later we’re still very happily married.

I think he did the crazier part of it, though. He asked me to marry him after we’d known each other about 3 hours.

As a newly single mom, I took my 9 year old and 1 month baby to start a new life in the Chicago area. It was very scary since I was alone and had no family/friend support. It was like jumping in the deep end and not sure if I could swim. But I learned to float, then swim.
